RIVERSIDE: Alleged burglar, chased from one home, arrested fleeing second burgled residence

RIVERSIDE — Officers responding to a Monday, Dec. 11, 911 call reporting a burglary in progress arrested an alleged burglar on the 2100 block of Prince Albert, south of Martin Luther King Boulevard and west of Chicago Avenue, in Riverside.

The man was apprehended after breaking into a second, unoccupied home in the neighborhood after a person at the first home confronted him and chased him from the residence.

The suspect, who was later identified as Ricardo Ferguson, 36, of Perris, was arrested after a responding motor officer spotted him fleeing from the rear of the second victim’s residence.

After his arrest, Ferguson was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of a single count of residential burglary.

The investigation began about 2:41 p.m., when Riverside PD officers were dispatched to the home after a resident called 911 to report the in-progress burglary.

“A male suspect entered the residence and was confronted by the homeowner,” a Riverside PD official explained in a social media release after the incidents and arrest. “The suspect fled but was contacted by a motor officer while exiting the rear yard of another house.”

After detaining Ferguson for further investigation, officers were notified that a home alarm system inside the second home had been activated when Ferguson gained entry into it.

Ferguson was positively identified by the first homeowner and later admitted to breaking into both residences, according to officials.

Officials did not specify if Ferguson managed to take anything of value during either of the burglaries.

An online jail record search revealed Ferguson remains in custody and is being held on $35,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice, Dec. 13.
