LAKE ELSINORE: Man arrested after allegedly pointing gun at other man

LAKE ELSINORE — A man officials allege pointed a rifle at another person Thursday, Dec. 21, first barricaded himself inside a residence and then attempted to flee from deputies before he was apprehended on the 200 block of E. Graham in Lake Elsinore.

After an investigation, the alleged suspect, identified as Raymundo Gomez, 24, of Lake Elsinore, was later booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and attempted burglary.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Lake Elsinore Police Station responded to the location just before 9 p.m., after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Dan Ponder explained after the incident and arrest

When deputies arrived they contacted the victim, who said Gomez pointed a rifle at him and threatened that he was going to kill him. The victim feared for his life and fled from the location before calling 911, according to Ponder.

When deputies attempted to make contact with Gomez, the alleged suspect reportedly fled into his residence.

Deputies surrounded the house and made several attempts to contact Gomez and have him exit the house and surrender.

“After a brief period of time passed, the suspect attempted to flee from his property on foot, but was quickly apprehended,” Ponder explained. Deputies arrested Gomez without incident.

During their subsequent investigation, deputies searched Gomez’ property at which time they located and seized the rifle he allegedly pointed at and threatened the victim with.
