REDDING: Motorcyclist killed in collision with other vehicle

REDDING — A motorcyclist died after crashing broadside into a vehicle exiting a shopping center, Thursday evening, Dec. 21. The fatal accident happened on the 800 block of Browning Street in Redding.

Redding Police and Fire personnel along with other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the deadly wreck about 7:30 p.m., after SHASCOM received several 911 reports of a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle, Redding Police Sergeant Montgomery explained in a written press release after the accident.

When officials arrived, they found the victim’s motorcycle down in the roadway near a vehicle with moderate, driver’s side damage.

The motorcyclist sustained major traumatic injuries and despite life-saving efforts, the motorcycle rider succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Officials have not released the victim’s name, pending further investigation and notification of the motorcyclist’s family.

The driver of the other involved vehicle, identified as Danielle Morgan, 30, of Redding, suffered minor injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Mercy Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Based on the circumstances, members of Redding PD’s Traffic Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Based on witness statements and evidence located at the scene, officers determined Morgan was pulling out of the north parking lot of Kohl’s onto Browning Street when she was struck broadside by the motorcyclist, which had been travelling eastbound on Browning Street.

Officials do not believe alcohol or drug intoxication were contributing factors in the collision; however, they are still working to determine how fast the motorcyclist was travelling at the time of the collision.

Their investigation is active and ongoing and officials have requested that anyone with information about this investigation or who witnessed the deadly crash and has not yet provided a statement to officers contact Redding PD’s Traffic Unit at (530) 225-4200. Callers can refer to incident file number 17-94076 and can remain anonymous.
