MORENO VALLEY: Injured woman rescued from mountain trail

MORENO VALLEY — A woman who suffered a lower extremity injury while hiking with a group was rescued from a remote, mountain hiking trail, Monday afternoon, Dec. 25. The trail the woman was rescued from is east of Krameria Avenue and Lasselle Street and northwest of Lake Perris, in Moreno Valley.

Eleven firefighters from two engine companies and one truck company responded to the remote area rescue about 3:16 p.m., Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer April Newman explained in an incident report.

After they arrived, firefighters hiked about three-quarters of the way to the top of the mountain, where the victim was.

Based on the victim’s injuries and location on the mountain, officials at the scene requested a technical hoist rescue and summoned a helicopter to the area to assist. Cal Fire’s copter 301 responded and arrived overhead just after 4 p.m. and set up to perform a hoist rescue.

About thirty minutes later, H301 successfully hoisted the victim off the mountain and flew her to a waiting AMR ground ambulance. The victim was then transported to an area hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Her injuries were described as moderate.
