SHASTA LAKE CITY: Stolen van parked at home leads to arrest of 5

SHASTA LAKE CITY — Sheriff’s officials arrested five people while investigating a stolen vehicle that was found parked in front of a residence at 4404 Vallecito Street in Shasta Lake City, Friday evening, Dec. 15. The alleged suspects, including four men and one woman, were later booked into jail on a variety of charges.

The investigation began about 11 p.m., when a Shasta County sheriff’s deputy spotted a stolen vehicle while patrolling in the area of Vallecito Street.

“Deputy Miyasato observed a blue Dodge van parked in the driveway of a residence,” Shasta County Sheriff’s Sergeant Garet Baldwin explained after the arrests. “He recognized the van from a BOLO issued by the Redding Police Department, reporting the van as stolen.”

After conducting a records check, Miyasato confirmed the vehicle was still listed as stolen and determined the owner of the residence where the van was parked, identified as 41-year-old, Joshua Raymond Sampley, was on active probation for possession of stolen property.

As other deputies arrived to assist in conducting a probation search, they observed a man they recognized as 30-year-old, Adrian Stephen Lopez, walking from the residence. Deputies knew Lopez had numerous outstanding warrants and they stopped and arrested him based on his warrants.

After arresting Lopez outside the home, deputies contacted and detained Sampley and several other people who were inside the residence.

Based on the terms of his probation, deputies conducted a probation search and located numerous rounds of ammunition, including .40 caliber, 9mm, and .22 caliber cartridges. As a convicted felon, Sampley is prohibited from being in possession of ammunition.

Sampley was arrested for being a felon in possession of ammunition and violation of probation.

During the probation search deputies also contacted Matthew Lewis Warmington, Shawn Lee Harrison and Angela Glenda Root.

“Warmington admitted to deputies that he was in possession of the stolen Dodge van located in the driveway and had driven it to the location,” said Baldwin. Based on his admission, deputies arrested Warmington for possession of stolen property.

The van was later returned to its owner.

Deputies determined Harrison and Root had outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court and they arrested both subjects before transporting them to Shasta County Jail and booked on their respective charges.
