JURUPA VALLEY: Alleged crowbar-wielding robber who fled from deputies arrested

JURUPA VALLEY — A man officials say robbed a drugstore while armed with a crowbar was arrested after fleeing from deputies, Friday morning, Jan. 12. The robbery happened on the 8000 block of Limonite Avenue in Jurupa Valley.

After an investigation, deputies arrested Jose Romero, 21, Jurupa Valley, and he was later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of robbery, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Julio De Leon explained after the incident and arrest.

Deputies assigned to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Station responded to the drugstore about 7:40 a.m., after employees called 911 and reported a robbery in progress at the location.

The callers also told emergency dispatchers the alleged suspect stole cash and was armed with a crowbar and they provided dispatchers with a description of the suspect and what he was wearing.

As deputies were arriving at the business they saw a male matching the description of the suspect exiting the store. When the man, who was later identified as Romero, spotted deputies outside the business he fled on foot, running towards a nearby neighborhood.

Deputies pursued Romero on foot into the neighborhood where they apprehended him with help from a Sheriff’s K-9.

Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact Investigator Martinez from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station at (951) 955-2600. Callers can refer to incident file number JV180120029 and can remain anonymous.
