RIVERSIDE: Woman allegedly shoots ex – charged with attempted murder

RIVERSIDE — A Riverside woman was arrested and charged with attempted murder after she allegedly shot her ex-husband Friday night, leaving him critically injured.

Riverside police officers were dispatched to a home on the 2000 block of Stratford Way, in the Victoria neighborhood of Riverside shortly before 9 p.m. According to the 911 caller, one of their neighbors reported to them that she had just shot her ex-husband.

When officers arrived at the home they found a man inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers located 37-year-old, Balinda Dawn Ballinger at the home where she reported the shooting and detained her for further investigation.

The man, who has not been identified, was rushed to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition, according to officials.

Based on the circumstances, detectives from Riverside PD’s Robbery – Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. They were assisted by personnel from the department’s Forensics Unit.

Detectives arrested Ballinger early the next morning at the conclusion of their initial investigation. She was arrested just over seven hours after she reported to her neighbors that she had shot her ex. 

She was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside  on suspicion of attempted murder several hours later.

Officials have not released if there is a known motive for the shooting and it was not immediately known if the couple had a history of domestic violence or prior arrests.

An online jail record search revealed Ballinger remains in custody held on $1 million bail and she is scheduled to be arraigned at Riverside Hall of Justice, Feb 28.

  • Many of us ,in Virginia,know this man. He did his residency at UVA. He was a great guy who amy of us cared for.He will be missed !! We all wonder why in the world would this women to something like what she did?? She has a 3 month old child that now is parentless…… It breaks our hearts!!
