New author, 7-year-old Madelyn Fox, to be featured at Saturday book reading, signing in Temecula
One day last year 7-year-old Madelyn Fox came home from Kindergarten and announced to her mother that she wanted to write a book. Madelyn’s mom Monica Fox, who happens to be a part-time writing professor, was delighted to hear of her daughter’s interest in writing and encouraged Madelyn to follow her dreams.
“She wanted to write a story about bullying and she said ‘there are all these books about bad foxes and I want to write the story of a good fox,'” Monica explained about her daughter. “She wanted people to understand that not all foxes are bad.”

Barnes and Noble in Temecula will be hosting a very special book reading and signing event featuring 7-year-old author Madelyn Fox. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 3 at 11:30 a.m.
So, with her mom’s guidance and using the family’s last name as a jumping off point, Madelyn came up with an idea for a book called ‘A Good Fox.’
Her book, which was illustrated by Estella Hickman – who has authored and/or illustrated many other popular children’s books, such as Five Little Monkeys Going to the Zoo, Sarah’s Great Idea, Triple Trouble and Friendship for Three – was published by Mascot Books Jan. 2.
Discussing her book, the young – but wise beyond her years – author explained why she chose to write about bullying and how she came upon the idea of using a fox as her story’s main character.
“I wanted to write a story that was different than all the other stories,” Madelyn explained. “Not all foxes are the same. There are good ones too and those foxes stand up for their friends.”
Already quite an accomplished artist, before Madelyn decided she wanted to write A Good Fox, she loved reading and writing stories and once “created a book all on her own,” complete with her own hand-drawn and colored illustrations, according to her mom.
Not surprisingly, Madelyn’s favorite subject in school is reading and when she is not writing stories the first grader loves drawing, singing, gymnastics and swimming.
“I’m proud of my daughter’s interest in writing, something that we both share,” Monica explained the night before Madelyn’s big public debut as an author. “I’m also proud of her for wanting to write about friendship and being kind and brave.”
Madelyn’s interests go far beyond just writing stories and artwork from when she was just 5 and 6 years old showed her attention to detail and love of bright colors.
Madelyn’s 38-page book – which comes in hardback and has already been rated 5-stars on Amazon by those who have purchased the book since its January publication – follows the adventures of a kind and brave little girl fox whose life is turned upside down after she meets a happy-go-lucky gingerbread man. Will the kind fox and adventurous gingerbread man be friends or enemies? Will the foxes hungry bear friend be able to help out? Only by reading Madelyn’s fun and enchanting book will you ever know!

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 27 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 14 grandchildren.
