SAN JACINTO: San Jacinto couple arrested after allegedly burglarizing retail store

SAN JACINTO — Authorities investigating the early morning burglary of a retail store at San Jacinto’s Farmers Corner Shopping Center, Thursday, Mar. 1, quickly identified and apprehended a San Jacinto couple they say was responsible. The pair was arrested within two hours of the reported break-in and both are now sitting in separate jail cells awaiting arraignment.

Deputies arrested Edward Galardo and Serena Capistrano after the couple allegedly burglarized a retail store. Officials say they recovered $1,200 in stolen merchandise.

After an investigation, deputies arrested Edward James Galardo, 19, and Serena Kay Capistrano, 20. Both were later transported to Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning where Galardo was booked on suspicion of burglary and a probation violation. Capistrano was booked on suspicion of burglary.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s San Jacinto Police Station responded to reports of a burglary at a retail store on the 2500 block of S. San Jacinto Avenue about 2:30 a.m., Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Scott Burns explained after the incident and pair’s arrest.

When officials arrived, they determined two suspects had forcefully entered the store and stolen merchandise valued at approximately $1,200.

While deputies processed the scene and collected evidence, their investigation “expeditiously led to the identification of the suspects,” Burns explained. “Within hours, officers arrested the two suspects and recovered the stolen property.”

Jail records indicated deputies located Galardo about a mile away, in the area of S. San Jacinto and W. Esplanade Avenues at 4:13 a.m. Capistrano was arrested at a home on N. Wateka Street about 45 minutes later.

Both Galardo and Capistrano remain in custody, Galardo held on $50,000 and Capistrano on $10,000 bails. The couple is scheduled to be arraigned at Southwest Justice Center, March 5.
