MORENO VALLEY: Man arrested, charged with murdering girlfriend at apt

MORENO VALLEY — Sheriff’s investigators have arrested a man they allege murdered his 25-year-old girlfriend inside her Moreno Valley apartment, Saturday afternoon, Mar. 17.

Saturday’s murder was the first of three confirmed or potential homicides that happened in the city over as many days. Two of those incidents have already resulted in arrests and murder charges, including one incident where a man stands accused of fatally stabbing his wife. The other incident began as a suicide investigation but is now being investigated as suspicious in nature. Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit members are heading up all three investigations.

After being found inside an apartment with his girlfriend’s lifeless body, officials detained and later arrested the victim’s 32-year-old boyfriend, Latravius Brian Gobert, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Wallace Clear explained after the man’s arrest. Gobert was booked at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside early Sunday morning on suspicion of murder with malice.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station rushed to the victim’s apartment on the 25000 block of Alessandro Blvd near Perris Blvd just after 4:30 p.m. Deputies were dispatched to the location after receiving a 911 call reporting an unconscious woman inside an apartment at the complex. Officials did not specify who placed the 911 call.

Deputies arrived at the location within minutes and found the unconscious victim as well as Gobert inside the apartment.

Deputies rendered aid to the unconscious woman until paramedics arrived, at which time AMR medics rushed the victim to Riverside University Health System hospital in Moreno Valley. According to Clear, the victim later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Officials have not released the woman’s name, pending notification of her family.

“Based on circumstances at the scene, investigators from Moreno Valley Police Department and the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation,” Clear explained. Their subsequent investigation led to Gobert’s arrest a bit less than 24 hours later.

An online jail record search revealed Gobert was transferred to Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta where he remains in custody, held on $1 million bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Riverside’s Hall of Justice, Mar. 21.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Investigator Gore at the Moreno Valley Police Department at (951) 486-6700 or Investigator Higgins at the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777.
