UPDATE: Murdered Riverside woman’s son arrested after found with dead mother’s car

Officials have identified a victim whose body was found in a shallow ravine near the base of Box Springs Mountain in Moreno Valley, Thursday, June 21. Riverside police officials later confirmed that the victim, who was reported missing from her Sycamore Canyon residence early Wednesday morning, was the alleged suspects mother.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials identified this morning Mica Maddock, 51, of Riverside, as the woman found deceased just feet from Gernert Road near Pettegrew Road in Moreno Valley.

Aaron Allen Aubrey, a 24-year-old transient from Riverside, was arrested after he was found in possession of Maddock’s vehicle at an apartment complex in Corona. He was initially detained as a person of interest in his mother’s disappearance and booked into jail on suspicion of vehicle theft, identity theft, and violation of parole; however detectives later added the charge of murder after finding the woman’s remains in an area “known to be frequented by the suspect,” officials said in an updated release.

Officials have not stated if there is a known motive for Maddock’s murder and citing their ongoing investigation, have not released any further information.

ORIGINAL STORY: Parolee found in Corona with missing Riverside woman’s car, officials discover remains in Moreno Valley

Details are beginning to emerge after a parolee was arrested and charged with the murder of a woman who was reported missing from Riverside the day before.

The victim – who has not yet been publicly named – was reported missing from Riverside’s Sycamore Canyon neighborhood on Wednesday, June 20.

Riverside PD’s subsequent investigation covered at least three cities, including Riverside, Corona, and Moreno Valley.

The alleged suspect was later identified as 24-year-old, Riverside area transient, Aaron Allen Aubrey.

He was found in possession of the missing woman’s vehicle and a woman’s body was found the following day in Moreno Valley near the base of Box Springs Mountain.

Although officials have not yet publicly connected Aubrey with the un-named missing woman’s death, he has since been booked into jail on multiple charges, including murder and vehicle theft.

The investigation began early Wednesday morning, June 20, when a man called Riverside PD about 3:40 a.m., to report that his common-law wife was missing and had not been seen since the prior evening.

After responding to a home on the 5800 block of Fair Isle Drive, officers learned that when the reporting party returned home from work that morning, his wife was not home as expected and her vehicle was not at the residence.

“He became more concerned when she was not answering or returning phone calls, and then did not show up to work later that morning,” officials explained in a social media release after Aubrey’s arrest.

Based on the circumstances, detectives from the department’s Robbery – Homicide Unit assumed the investigation and began gathering information and following up on leads.

According to jail records, Aubrey was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center nearly seven hours later on suspicion of vehicle theft, identity theft, and violation of parole.

The next morning officials continued their investigation with detectives focusing their search near the base of Box Springs Mountain in Moreno Valley.

With help from Riverside County Sheriff’s bloodhounds and recovery dogs from Search Dog Resources, detectives searched the area of Gernert and Pettegrew Roads.

Although officials did not specify what led detectives to search that specific area, which is just two miles from the victim’s residence, at around 11 a.m. that morning they located the deceased body of an adult woman in a shallow ravine, just feet from the roadway.

Officials cordoned off the entire area while detectives, forensic technicians, and Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s officials spent the remainder of the day at the scene searching for evidence related to the investigation. Throughout the afternoon and early evening, officials were seen documenting, photographing, and collecting items of potential evidence.

According to Riverside PD’s release, the identity of the deceased woman and official cause of death is still pending further investigation.

While officials have not detailed a direct connection between Aubrey, the missing woman, and the body found yesterday morning, jail records indicated that Riverside detectives added the charge of murder against Aubrey later that day.

Aubrey remains in custody and is being held without bail. Although he was scheduled to be arraigned at Riverside’s Hall Of Justice on his original charges later this morning, it was not immediately known if that arraignment was still scheduled or was being delayed to allow for the DA’s office to add the additional murder allegation to his other charges.

A Riverside County Superior Courts record search revealed Aubrey has one prior arrest in Riverside County. Court records indicate the May 14 arrest from this year was for obstructing or resisting a peace officer in the City of Perris. He was scheduled to be arraigned on that charge July 24.
