Officials later identified 37-year-old, Jehonathan Gill, of Redding as the victim killed in the shooting.

City of Redding police officers responded to the area about 6:10 p.m., after motorists reported a shooting involving the two men.

After determining the incident happened within the county’s jurisdiction, Shasta County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

When deputies arrived, they found Gill suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds” and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Based on the circumstances, detectives with Shasta County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit were summoned to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Multiple witnesses were interviewed during the subsequent investigation and told detectives that Schumacher shot Gill, sheriff’s officials explained after the deadly shooting.

As their investigation was continuing, crime scene personnel and sheriff’s officials found several pieces of evidence consistent with witness statements and officials located and recovered a semi-automatic handgun Schumacher was believed to have used during the homicide.

While officials investigated the fatal incident, they called for the temporary closure of Clear Creek Rd. The roadway was re-opened several hours later.

Anyone with information about this investigation or who witnessed the shooting is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit at (530) 245-6135, or by email. Callers can remain anonymous.
