HEMET: Man detained after stabbing at apartment complex

HEMET — Officials are investigating a stabbing that happened earlier this evening at the Green Tree Park Apartments in Hemet. The complex is located on the 1000 block of Devonshire Ave., between N. Lyon and N. Palm Avenues.

The victim, who was reportedly stabbed in the chest, was later transported to an area hospital and the alleged suspect was detained at gunpoint. It was not immediately known what led to the reported stabbing or if the alleged assailant was arrested.

City of Hemet Police and Fire personnel, along with other emergency first responders were dispatched to the apartment complex shortly before 6 p.m., after receiving reports of a stabbing at the location.

When the first officer arrived at the scene just moments later, he spotted the alleged suspect and held him at gunpoint, while requesting priority emergency response from other officers still headed to the scene.

Other officers quickly converged on the complex with lights flashing and sirens blaring.

Once additional officers arrived, they detained the alleged suspect without further incident. Officers quickly determined the victim, described as a black male, had left the location and was last seen walking away from the apartment complex.

Officers immediately fanned out in the area and began searching for the victim, while fire and paramedics staged nearby.

An officer eventually located the victim about a mile away, at a gas station on the corner of N. State St. and E. Latham Ave.

Paramedics determined the victim had been stabbed in the chest and AMR medics rushed him to Riverside University Health System in Moreno Valley for further evaluation and treatment.

Hemet PD has not yet released any information regarding their investigation, which is active and ongoing.
