On Friday, August 17, 2018, at about 7:28 PM an Anderson Police Officer was conducting patrol of the Gateway Shopping Center, located in the 2600 block of Gateway Dr., when he observed a suspicious vehicle parked behind one of the businesses.

The officer observed three subjects loitering around a silver sedan that was parked behind the business complex.

The officer recognized one of the subjects, Jeremy Ryan Byrd, age 35, of Butte County, as the suspect in a recent burglary and attempted burglary.

Byrd was caught on video on August 16th attempting to burglarize the Sacred Hearth Thrift Store on Gateway Dr. and was caught on video on August 17th burglarizing Anderson High School.

The officer attempted to contact Byrd, however Byrd fled westbound onto the I-5 on ramp. The officer chased Byrd on foot.

Byrd ran up an embankment and ran across both lanes of I-5. Byrd then ran down an embankment onto the southbound I-5 on ramp.

Once on the on ramp a citizen observed the foot pursuit and attempted to assist the officer by cutting Byrd off. Byrd then opened the backdoor of the citizen’s vehicle and climbed into the backseat.

Almost immediately the officer caught up to Byrd and removed him out of the vehicle at gun point. Byrd was taken into custody without further incident.

Byrd initially provided the officer with a false name, however his true identity was ultimately discovered. Byrd admitted to the High School burglary and the attempted Thrift Store burglary.

Byrd was found to be on felony probation out of Butte County for theft and to have a felony warrant out of Butte County listing him as possibly armed and dangerous.

Byrd was booked into the Shasta County Jail.
