DUI stop and arrest near Redding leads to 100 pounds of marijuana

REDDING — A CHP officer who stopped a suspected drunk driver was surprised to find 100 pounds of marijuana inside the trunk of the vehicle he had stopped, Friday evening, Aug. 24. The stop and arrest happened in the area of Riverland Dr. near Knighton Rd., southeast of Redding.

enforcement stop around 8:30 p.m., after spotting a 1993 Honda Civic that was “speeding and weaving” in traffic, CHP-Redding explained in a social media release after the incident.

The officer eventually arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.

“While conducting an inventory of the vehicle prior to towing, officers located several large bags containing an estimated 100 lbs of marijuana,” CHP explained. “The driver was passing through Shasta County, from Oregon to the LA area.”

The driver was later booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding and additional charges could be filed, “pending the completion of the investigation,” according to CHP.

During his time with the sheriff’s department, Trevor worked at several different stations; including Robert Presley Detention Center, Southwest Station in Temecula, Hemet/Valle Vista Station, Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center, and Lake Elsinore Station; along with other locations.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 14 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
