Vehicle slams into, knocks down SJ power pole

SAN JACINTO — Officials are investigating a single-vehicle crash after a passenger vehicle slammed into and knocked down a San Jacinto power pole Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9. The minor injury accident happened on Idyllwild Dr. near Penny Ln.

San Jacinto sheriff’s deputies and Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters, along with other emergency personnel, responded to the scene of the crash just after 2:30 p.m., after receiving reports of a vehicle that slammed into a power pole.

When firefighters arrived they found a silver Chevy HHR that had plowed into a power pole, shearing the pole at the base.

Paramedics evaluated a female occupant from the vehicle and later transported her by ground ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries described as minor.

The accident briefly knocked out power to surrounding homes and Southern California Edison later responded to the scene to replace the damaged pole and assess and repair the damaged power lines.

Officials have not released any information about the crash and their investigation is ongoing.
