Suspect unknown after bodies of two transients found at City of Shasta Lake homeless camp

CITY OF SHASTA LAKE — Authorities are investigating a double homicide after the bodies of a man and woman were found at a transient encampment in the City of Shasta Lake, Friday afternoon, Sept. 7.

The victims, who were in a “dating relationship” according to officials, were found deceased at an undeveloped property on the 500 block of Black Canyon Road, north of Shasta Dam Blvd. and west of I-5.

Deputies assigned to City of Shasta Lake Patrol Division, along with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the location at 12:14 p.m, after receiving a 911 call reporting the discovery of two bodies.

When deputies arrived they found two deceased subjects, later identified as Michael Thomas Bingham Jr., 31, and Angela Lynne McConnell, 26.

Based on the circumstances, members of Shasta County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation, which is being treated as a double homicide.

Autopsies are tentatively scheduled later this week to determine the victims’ causes of death.

Officials say they do not have anyone in custody related to their investigation, but that there is “no indication the general public is at risk.”

Officials have not released any additional details about their investigation, which is active and ongoing.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 14 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
