City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments, along with sheriff’s deputies and other emergency personnel, responded to reports of a head-on collision with injuries about 10:40 p.m., Hemet Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Kulhman later explained from the scene. 911 callers reported major injuries and that the victims were possibly trapped inside the two vehicles.

When officials arrived they found a dark-colored Volvo station wagon with two occupants and a grey Ford Taurus sedan with one occupant. Both vehicles were in the dirt median and had sustained heavy front-end damage. Firefighters soon determined all three occupants were trapped and would need to be cut free from the wrecked vehicles.

Firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” to cut away the vehicles and all three victims were extricated in about 15 minutes, according to Kulhman.

All three victims were eventually transported by ground ambulances to area trauma centers with injuries ranging from moderate to severe.

Officials are still working to determine if alcohol or drug intoxication were contributing factors in the crash.

Hemet PD is investigating the cause of the crash and their investigation is ongoing.
