Deputies assigned to the Perris Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the home just after 10:30 pm, after receiving reports of shots fired in the area, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Walter Mendez explained this afternoon.

“Deputies arrived and located an adult male victim deceased inside a residence and a large amount of marijuana was located on the property,” Mendez explained.

Deputies requested additional resources to the home and quickly established a crime scene, cordoning off the area.

Based on the circumstances, Central Homicide Unit and Perris Station Investigators responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

A mobile command center was soon brought to the scene and forensic technicians from the department’s Forensic Services Bureau were later seen documenting, photographing, and collecting potential evidence from the residence and property.

During their preliminary on-scene investigation officials learned that two “unknown race males” were spotted running from the residence after the shooting and officials are now working to determine the identity of the two men.

Officials have not released the victim’s name pending further investigation and notification of the man’s family, and citing their ongoing investigation, Mendez declined to release any further details at this time.
