Community invited to Perris Valley Historical Museum’s “Bazaar @ the Perris Depot” – Nov. 10

PERRIS — If you cherish real antiques or hard to find collectibles and are still looking for potential Christmas gifts – whether for family, friends, or yourself – then this weekend’s return of Perris Valley Historical Museum’s Bazaar @ the Perris Depot is the place you will want to be this Saturday, Nov. 10.

Saturday’s fun and free event, which is just in time for the holidays, will feature booths set up by “juried purveyors” of one-of-a-kind handcrafted wares and fine art, and showcase “genuine” antiques, diverse treasures, vintage collectibles, art and handmade crafts, and unique products from local artisans and collectors. Products and merchandise from “unique, hand-picked” independent vendors and area businesses, both big and small will also be on hand.

The event will also feature “local singing ‘Sometime Country’ cowboy” James Isabel,  free museum tours and popcorn, and some “very cool gifts” will be offered during the bazaar’s Opportunity Drawing; all amid the beautiful ambience of the historic depot’s intimate Victorian garden setting.

“It’s a wonderful fundraiser created to help the museum raise needed funds for their many important projects such as the museum’s ongoing Hook House restoration,” PVHM Board Member Cindy Chambers said of the annual event, which first debuted in 2013. “The museum is terribly under utilized by the local residents, who don’t realize what a little gem they have there.”

All proceeds from the event will help Perris Valley Historical Museum continue providing education to the public about the City’s storied past and funding ongoing restoration projects such as Perris’ historic “Hook House,” which was built in the early 1890’s and is currently undergoing extensive renovation and restoration. Once completed, the historical association plans on turning the home into a public museum that will showcase the legacy of the Hook family and their impact on the city.

Saturday’s bazaar is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the historic Santa Fe Depot in downtown Perris, at 120 W. 4th Street, between C and D Streets. Parking for the event is free at the nearby Metrolink parking area northeast of 3rd and of D street, and there will even be volunteers to help you carry all your purchases to your car.

Built of red brick, the 1892 Santa Fe Railway depot in Perris is a classic example of High Victorian style, and still sits on its original site, substantially unchanged from its original design and construction. The depot was restored by City of Perris in 2009 at a cost of one and half million dollars and set up as a beautiful museum, with funds that the Perris Valley Historical Museum and Association raised on their own.

Trevor Montgomery, 47, moved last year to the Intermountain area of Shasta County from Riverside County and runs Riverside County News Source and Shasta County News Source. Trevor spent 10 years in the U.S. Army as an Orthopedic Specialist before joining the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. He was medically retired after losing his leg, breaking his back, and suffering both spinal cord and brain injuries in an off-duty accident. During his time with the sheriff’s department, Trevor worked at several different stations; including Robert Presley Detention Center, Southwest Station in Temecula, Hemet/Valle Vista Station, Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center, and Lake Elsinore Station; along with other locations.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 14 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
