Run over, pinned by own car at restaurant, woman later dies

BEAUMONT — A woman has died from injuries she sustained when she was struck by her own vehicle at a Beaumont restaurant drive-through Saturday afternoon, Dec. 8. The bizarre and deadly accident happened at the 2nd Street Marketplace on the 1400 block of the E. 2nd Street.

Officials investigating the incident later determined that when the victim exited her vehicle, she may have failed to put her car in park. As she walked in front of her vehicle, it began rolling forward and the victim was run over, then pinned between her car and the wall of the business.

Beaumont Police and Fire Departments, along with other emergency personnel were called to the restaurant around 1:45 p.m., after receiving reports of the solo-vehicle accident, Beaumont PD said in a release.

When officials arrived, they found the victim crushed between her vehicle and the wall of the business.  The woman had sustained major traumatic injuries and firefighters managed to free the victim before rushing her to an area hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

The victim’s name has not been publicly released, pending notification of her family.

During their preliminary investigation of the collision officers determined “the female driver had entered the drive-thru lane of the restaurant and had attempted to exit her vehicle without placing the vehicle in park,” Beaumont PD later said in a social media release. “The vehicle continued moving forward, running over the driver and pinning the woman between the vehicle and the wall of the business, causing the fatal injuries.”

Asked about the crash, an official at the scene who investigated the cause of the deadly incident called the woman’s death a tragic accident, and that no foul play was suspected; however Beaumont PD’s investigation is active and ongoing.

This is a developing story that will be updated as new information is available.
