Downed power lines in Cassel, Old Station, dividing resources
CASSEL — Emergency and power officials are responding to multiple reports of power lines down in Cassel and Old Station this afternoon, Friday, Dec. 14. The downed live wires in Cassell also reportedly started a small grass and brush fire in front of Cassel post office at 21594 Cassel Rd., between Kern Rd. and Manzanita Way.
Hat Creek Resort in Old Station and other area businesses and homes in both Cassel and Old Station have reported no power and officials have not yet provided an estimate when power might be restored.

Initial reports indicate that heavy winds of 17 to 20 mph throughout the area knocked a tree down into power lines in Cassel, which caused the live lines to break and start a small grass fire. Winds have also reportedly knocked down power lines in the Old Station area, between Sugar Loaf Ln. and Brookhaven Dr., and emergency personnel were dispatched to that incident as well.
Numerous Intermountain area engine companies and other apparatus were dispatched to the incident in Cassel shortly after 12:30 p.m., after receiving reports of the hazardous condition. Moments later SHASCOM began receiving reports of the Old Station downed power lines, causing area resources to divide to handle the separate incidents.
When the first engine company arrived in Cassel, a fire official reported a tree had blown over into power lines, which were knocked down and left blocking Cassel Rd. Officials also updated that the reported fire had already been extinguished and was no longer burning.
When officials arrived in the Old Station area the first firefighter on scene reported finding multiple power lines down in Hat Creek RV Park, and was checking other power lines in the area.
As of this report, additional resources are still headed to both scenes, with at least a one hour ETA for power officials to arrive in Cassel.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
