Agencies worldwide mourn with LPD after “devastating loss” of Krispy Kreme Donut truck
And in Today’s Lighter Side of the News…
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Law enforcement agencies worldwide are feeling the pain along with Lexington Police Department in Kentucky after a Krispy Kreme Doughnuts delivery truck went up in flames, destroying the precious cargo of sugary sweet sinkers inside.
After the “devastating” loss, the department Tweeted images of several officers mourning the krispy karnage. The photos, in which you can sense the officers’ despair by the glazed look on their faces, were accompanied by the simple caption, “No words.” That original Tweet has since been re-Tweeted more than 36,000 times and received more than 150,000 reactions and comments.

The delivery truck fire happened last week after the driver of the truck noticed smoke coming from the back. Although the driver escaped uninjured, the contents of the truck were destroyed.
Officials said in an initial report by WLEX, that they were “working diligently to get to the bottom of this tragedy.” Another Tweet by Skaggit Breaking Community News indicated that grief counselors were being brought in to help officers channel their loss “in a safe and constructive” manner.
After LPD’s Tweet, police departments from around the nation began sending back their own Tweeted messages offering their support and words of encouragement to the grieving agency.
Among other agencies to show their support was New York Police Department, which Tweeted to the Kentucky officers, “Hang tight, we are sending backup forthwith, and these guys came prepared. We hope you like sprinkles.”
Stoughton PD jumped in on the action Tweeting, “We are so deeply sorry for your loss. Your brothers and sisters in Massachusetts are here for you during these tough times.” Toledo PD also offered the encouragement, “Hang in there. 2019 will get better.”
Other agencies and supporters from as far away as Canada, Ireland, Australia, and Europe, responded to the original Tweet with funny, sad, and tragic memes, messages, and GIF’s, while offering their tongue-in-cheek condolences and support; such as UK Police which Tweeted, “We feel your loss. We ‘donut’ know what else to say”
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts eventually joined the fritter-fueled Tweet-fest, promising a doughnut delivery to get the officers through their “difficult time.”
The popular donut giant made good on their promise earlier today, when the company sent a special delivery to Lexington PD. The delivery, which received a police escort of no less than four patrol units with emergency lights flashing, was led through town to the police station for central roll call, where a small crowd of donut-deprived officers were hungrily waiting. (See WLEX18 News footage of the special delivery below.)
As the somewhat speechless and overwhelmed delivery driver handed over one box after another of the freshly baked donuts she assured one of the receiving officers they weren’t “well-done” like the last batch.
The officer, overcome with jelly-filled joy, was seen hugging the donuts before triumphantly holding several boxes of the hand-delivered doughy dunkers high over his head, to the applause of the officers and other officials who stood by anxiously awaiting their next sugary-sweet fix.
Several area news agencies were on hand to not only film the delivery of the donut deliciousness, but to enjoy and reap the rewards as well, as many were later seen partaking of the glazed goodness.
This is a developing story that will be updated as new information is available.
