Knife-wielding man fatally shot outside Glenn Valley home
GLENN VALLEY — A knife-wielding man who officials say advanced toward a deputy in a threatening manner was fatally shot during a violent encounter last night in front of a private residence in an unincorporated area of Riverside County known as Glenn Valley. Despite life-saving measures, the alleged suspect died at the scene of the incident, which happened Saturday evening, Jan. 5, in the17300 block of Kaison Circle, south of Orangecrest and east of Woodcrest.
Family and friends familiar with the deadly incident and ongoing investigation told RCNS last night that the shooting was preceded by a domestic disturbance involving the suspect and several of his family members. Among the victims of the initially reported incident was the man’s step-father – a wheelchair-bound, double-leg amputee, who had reportedly been grievously injured and lost his legs and fingers in a work-related fire.

Last night’s deadly shooting happened after a deputy assigned to the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to the residence shortly before 10 p.m., after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Deputy Robyn Flores. When the deputy arrived at the home he made contact with the knife-wielding man in front of the residence.
The suspect, still armed with a knife, “advanced towards the deputy and a deputy involved shooting occurred,” explained Flores. “Life-saving measures were performed, but the suspect ultimately succumbed to his injuries.”
Although the alleged suspect’s family was at the scene and is aware of the man’s death, he has not yet been publicly identified, “pending further investigation,” said Flores.
No deputies or other citizens were injured during the shooting, but it was not immediately known if any of the family members were injured during the initially reported disturbance.
Based on the circumstances, Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit and Perris Station investigators responded to the location and assumed the investigation. They remained at the home conducting their initial, on-scene investigation throughout the evening and into the next afternoon.
“The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave per Department policy,” according to Flores, who said the deputy’s name will not be released at this time.
The Sheriff’s investigation is active and ongoing and Flores said no additional details would be released at this time.
