The driver of the car that overturned, identified as 23-year-old, Hemet resident, David Alejandro Rostrosolis, was later determined to be under the influence of alcohol and subsequently arrested. He was booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of gross vehicle homicide and DUI resulting in great bodily injury. Jail records indicate he was released from custody within hours of his arrest after posting $75,000 bail.

Deputies assigned to Menifee PD, CHP, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire, and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the crash just before 4:30 a.m., after receiving a report of a vehicle that overturned, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Marshall explained after the deadly crash.

When officials arrived they found a vehicle overturned and on its side, facing the wrong way on Domenigoni Pkwy. Firefighter-paramedics found Oropeza-Soto, who had been sitting unrestrained in the back seat of the wrecked car, was partially ejected and had sustained major traumatic injuries. AMR rushed the victim to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Rostrosolis was uninjured in the crash and declined medical treatment at the scene. Menifee PD conducted a field sobriety test and determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol and arrested the man.

Based on the circumstances, Menifee PD’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

“The preliminary investigation showed Rostrosolis was eastbound on Domenigoni Parkway, fell asleep, and struck the center median causing the vehicle to rollover,” said Marshall.

While officials worked at the scene they called for the temporary closure of eastbound Domenigoni Pkwy. The roadway was reopened several hours later, at the conclusion of the initial on-scene investigation.

Menifee PD has not released any further details regarding their investigation, which is ongoing.
