Man dead after Banning officer-involved shooting
BANNING — A man involved in a disturbance outside a Banning home was fatally shot by officers late Thursday evening, Feb. 7. The deadly shooting happened in the 1500 block of N. Blanchard St. Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was later requested to the scene to investigate the incident and shooting.

Several Banning PD officers were dispatched to the home around 10:45 p.m., after receiving reports of a disturbance in front of the residence, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez later explained. When officers arrived, they attempted to detain a male suspect, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred.
“The suspect was struck by a single officer’s gunfire,” Gutierrez explained.
Medical aid was requested to the scene immediately after the shooting and the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
Officials have not released any information about the deceased man, pending further investigation and notification of his family.
Based on the circumstances, Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was requested to the scene and assumed the officer-involved shooting investigation.
No officers or other citizens were injured during the incident and there are no outstanding suspects or threats to public safety, according to Gutierrez.
The Sheriff’s investigation is active and ongoing and officials have not released any further details or information.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
