City of Riverside Police and Fire Departments, along with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the crash around 5 a.m., after receiving reports of a two-vehicle traffic collision with serious injuries.
When officials arrived they found two wrecked vehicles within the intersection. Both vehicles, described as a blue Toyota Corolla and grey Toyota Camry, sustained moderate damage.
A pregnant woman who was a passenger in the Corolla was rushed to Riverside Community Hospital, “suffering from serious injuries to her unborn child,” RPD officials later explained. Officials did not specify if the pregnant woman or any of the other vehicles’ occupants were injured.
Based on the circumstances, Riverside PD’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
MAIT members determined that just before the crash occurred, the blue Toyota Corolla, which was being driven by a 33-year-old resident of Riverside, was southbound on Monroe St. At the same time, a gray Toyota Camry was being driven eastbound on Copenhagen Rd. by a 24-year-old, Riverside resident.
“The gray Camry stopped at the stop sign before proceeding into the intersection making a left turn to go northbound on Monroe St.,” explained RPD. “The vehicles collided in the intersection.”
