Man swerves to avoid deer, plows into Redding home

REDDING — A home sustained major damage when a Redding man swerved to avoid a deer and smashed through the front door of a residence yesterday afternoon, Monday, March 11. According to CHP-Redding, the home was unoccupied at the time and the agency did not report any injuries.

California Highway Patrol, along with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the 6000 block of Churn Creek Rd., after receiving reports of the solo-vehicle crash.

Responding officials found a dark-colored Toyota Camry that had come to rest partway inside a home, after mowing down several large potted plants, bushes, and landscaping decorations.

Officers who investigated the cause of the accident learned the driver who crashed had been traveling southbound on Churn Creek Rd. “when he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway,” CHP explained in a social media release.

The wrecked sedan was later pulled from the home and towed from the scene, but the residence sustained significant structural damage to the front of the home.

Alcohol and/or drug intoxication were not considered to be contributing factors in the crash, which is still under investigation.

CHP took the opportunity to remind area motorists to use caution when driving through areas known for deer and other wildlife, writing, “Please remember, if you are going to swerve to avoid an animal, make sure you have an escape route.”

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
