Man arrested after threatening to shoot girlfriend, her daughters
REDDING — An allegedly intoxicated man who officials said beat his girlfriend and threatened to shoot the woman and her two daughters was arrested yesterday evening, Sunday, March 17. The incident led to a brief but tense negotiation, as officers tried to coax the alleged suspect out of his Redding home in the 2400 block of Nebula St.
The man, later identified as 49-year-old, Arlend J. Bonsey, formerly of Burney, eventually exited his residence and was detained without further incident. After completing their investigation, officers arrested Bonsey and he was later booked into county jail on charges related to the incident.

Redding police officers were dispatched to the home around 9:30 p.m., after the victim called 911 to report that she and her boyfriend had been arguing, Redding Police Cpl. Sam Llamas said after Bonsey’s arrest. The woman told SHASCOM that Bonsey was intoxicated and armed with a handgun. She also reported Bonsey had been threatening to shoot her, as well as her two daughters.
When officers arrived they telephoned into the residence and tried to negotiate with Bonsey, asking him to exit the home and speak with officers.
“Bonsey ultimately exited his residence and was detained by officers,” explained Llamas, who said officers later located Bonsey’s handgun and seized it.
“As a result of the investigation, officers confirmed Bonsey attempted to load the firearm while threatening to kill the victim,” said Llamas. “Bonsey also battered the victim earlier in the evening.”
Based on their investigation, officers arrested Bonsey and he was booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of making criminal threats and domestic battery.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
