City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments, along with AMR and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the crash shortly before 6:30 p.m.
The first arriving engine company found a small, silver sedan stopped in the center lane in the middle of the roadway. The moderately damaged car was missing its right, front right wheel and fender, and a light pole was knocked down and partially blocking Stetson Ave.
The driver was out of his damaged car and walking around and later declined medical treatment at the scene.
Officers investigating the crash determined the driver lost control on the long, straight road and side-swiped a telephone pole, before plowing into, and knocking down, a light standard. The impacts sent the car careening back into the roadway, where it came to rest in the center divider.
City work crews later removed the destroyed light pole and SoCal Edison was summoned to check on the damage to the telephone pole, which was later described as minor. The wrecked vehicle was eventually towed from the scene, and Hemet PD’s investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
