Paraglider suffers serious injuries, airlifted after SJ crash

SAN JACINTO — A paraglider was airlifted with serious injuries after the victim crashed in San Jacinto earlier this morning, Thursday, April 4. This morning’s accident was the second crash and hoist rescue involving a paraglider from Soboba Paragliding and Speed Flying in less than two weeks. Both recent crashes, including one that happened Monday, March 25, happened in the 200 block of Soboba Ave.

Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters, an AMR ambulance crew, and other emergency personnel, were first alerted to the crash at 10:09 a.m., Cal Fire later reported via social media.

When officials arrived at the scene they found a paraglider who had crashed into the mountainside and sustained injuries they later described as serious. Based on the victim’s injuries, officials called for a helicopter to perform a technical hoist and rescue.

Cal Fire’s H901 responded to the area and hoisted the victim from the mountainside around 11:30 a.m., according to Cal Fire. The aviation crew then transported the victim directly to an area hospital.

Officials have not specified the full nature or extent of the victim’s injuries and no further updates were immediately available.

The cause of this morning’s accident is under investigation.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
