Man assaults boys playing football, arrested after returning with gun
LAKE ELSINORE — A man, angry about a group of juveniles playing football in a residential Lake Elsinore neighborhood, was arrested after attempting to assault the minors before leaving and returning to the scene with a loaded handgun Saturday afternoon, April 13. The incident happened in the area of Cedarhill Lane and Rosewood Court, according to officials.

Deputies responded to the neighborhood around 3:45 p.m., after receiving reports of a disturbance in the area, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Fredericks later reported. 911 callers reported the altercation involved several juveniles and a man later identified as Donald Charles Brandt, 33, of Lake Elsinore.
During their subsequent investigation, deputies learned Brandt confronted several teenagers who had been playing football in the street.
“An altercation ensued when Brandt attempted to assault the juveniles,” Fredericks explained. “Brandt was struck with a punch, and threatened to return with a handgun.”
Fearing for their safety, the boys fled to nearby homes and reported the incident and threats.

When deputies arrived, they located Brandt in his vehicle on Rosewood Ct. After detaining him, deputies discovered Brandt was in possession of a loaded and concealed firearm.
Although Brandt sustained minor injuries when he was punched by one of the juveniles during the altercation, none of the involved parties sustained serious injuries, according to Fredericks.
Based on their investigation, deputies arrested Brandt and he was later booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of making criminal threats, possession of a concealed handgun, and child endangerment. Jail records indicate Brandt was released from custody within hours of being booked, after posting $35,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Riverside’s Hall Of Justice, June 10.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
