Officials investigating Moreno Valley in-custody death

MORENO VALLEY — Officials are investigating after a man reportedly died shortly after being taken into custody in Moreno Valley early yesterday morning, Tuesday, June 4. According to sheriff’s officials, the person who died was detained in connection with a battery but was cooperating with deputies when he went into cardiac arrest and collapsed.

Deputies from the Moreno Valley Police Department responded to the 17000 block of Bronco Ln. at 3:36 a.m., after receiving reports of a battery at a residence, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Wallace Clear later reported.

Deputies arrived within minutes and detained a 25-year-old man in front of the residence where the reported battery occurred, according to Clear.

“The male was cooperative and complied with deputies’ instructions,” Clear described. “While being detained, the suspect went into cardiac arrest and deputies immediately began lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived.”

The suspect was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The man’s name has not been released publicly pending further investigation and notification of the person’s family.

Based on the circumstances, and in accordance with Sheriff’s Department policy regarding in-custody deaths, investigators from both the Moreno Valley Police Department and Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation, which is active and on-going.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
