Woman fatally shot inside home after witnessing burglary

RIVERSIDE — Officials are searching for an unknown male after an apartment manager was shot dead inside her downtown Riverside residence early Thursday morning, June 6. The deadly shooting happened in the 3800 block of Cedar Ave. after the victim’s husband interrupted a suspected vehicle burglary and a male suspect fired a handgun into the victim’s residence as he was fleeing the area.

City of Riverside Police and Fire Departments responded to the neighborhood around 3:45 a.m., after the City’s Public Safety Communications Center received reports of a shooting that had just occurred.

When officials arrived they found a woman who had been shot inside her residence. She was rushed to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. The victim’s name has not been released, pending further investigation and notification of her family.

Detectives with the Robbery – Homicide Unit, along with specialists from the department’s Forensics Unit, responded to assume the investigation. They were assisted by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office.

During their preliminary investigation, detectives learned the victim’s husband interrupted a vehicle burglary that was happening across the street from the apartment where he and his wife reside.

The man who witnessed the burglary “shouted at the suspect,” at which time the suspect then got into the passenger side of a white sedan, according to Riverside PD officials.

“A few moments later, a single gunshot was fired into the residence and the suspect vehicle was seen leaving the area,” RPD explained. “The only suspect description available at this time is of an adult male in a white sedan.

Riverside PD’s investigation is ongoing and no further details were available at the time of this report.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
