GOOD HOPE — A man was arrested after officials say he attempted to rob Harb’s Market, in the 22700 block of San Jacinto Ave. in the unincorporated community of Good Hope, Thursday evening, June 6. Although officials say the alleged suspect used an assault weapon during the robbery attempt, nobody was injured and no money was received. Deputies assigned to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station responded to the market around 8:30 p.m., after a clerk at the business called 911 and reported the attempted robbery, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Ricken later wrote in a press release after the incident and arrest.
“Initial reports indicated an individual was inside the business with an assault weapon,” Ricken reported.
“It was learned the suspect demanded cash or he would ‘kill’ the clerk,” Ricken continued. “When the cash was not turned over quick enough the suspect, who was later identified as 41-year-old Jesus Rodriguez-Sandoval, from the Good Hope area, fled the location on a bicycle.”
As the investigation was getting underway, deputies established a perimeter around the area where Rodriguez-Sandoval was last seen and began searching for the bicycle-riding suspect.
Deputies searching for the armed suspect soon learned Rodriguez-Sandoval was known to frequent a residence in the 40 block of Barbara Dr. After responding to the area, deputies spotted the alleged suspect as he was exiting a residential yard and he was taken into custody without incident. Deputies also located the weapon reportedly used in the robbery attempt.
Based on their investigation, deputies arrested Rodriguez-Sandoval and he was later transported to Cois Byrd Detention Center. Jail records indicate he was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of an assault weapon, brandishing a firearm, making criminal threats, attempted robbery, possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled substance.
He remains in custody on $50,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at Murrieta’s Southwest Justice Center June 11.
