Woman dies in fiery Hemet rollover wreck

HEMET — A woman was killed in a solo-vehicle rollover crash on the outskirts of Hemet’s west end late last night, June 9. The fatal accident, which was the second deadly crash in Hemet last night, happened on SR-74, west of Four Seasons Blvd. The other deadly crash happened at the intersection of N. Lyon and Commonwealth avenues and killed a 61-year-old Hemet woman.

Emergency personnel were alerted to the crash shortly after 11 p.m., after witnesses reported seeing a small car lose control and overturn multiple times. 911 callers also reported the vehicle burst into flames and that the driver was possibly trapped inside the burning vehicle.

When officials arrived they found a 1995 Toyota Camry upside down and on its roof. The sedan was engulfed in flames and still burning as firefighters set up to knock down the fire. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters confirmed a person was deceased and still trapped inside the burned wreckage of the car.

While firefighters began working to extract the victim from her vehicle, CHP shut down the roadway and began investigating the cause of the deadly crash.

During their investigation, officers determined the unidentified woman was driving eastbound on Florida Ave. “when, for reasons not yet determined, she failed to negotiate the sweeping turn in the roadway,” according to CHP Officer M. Peel.

As the driver lost control of her vehicle, the Camry careened across the center median and into the westbound lanes, where it then jumped the concrete curb on the north side of the roadway and plowed into a tree. The impact caused the Toyota to begin overturning, and the car rolled several times before coming to rest upside down and bursting into flames.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision, according to Peel.

The victim’s name has not been released; pending further investigation, identification, and notification of the victim’s family.

Alcohol and/or drugs have not been ruled out as contributing factors in the cause of this collision and CHP’s investigation is active and ongoing.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
