Death investigation underway after body found inside Hat Creek home

HAT CREEK — Officials are conducting a death investigation after a person’s lifeless body was discovered inside a Hat Creek residence earlier this evening, Tuesday, June 11. Radio traffic at the time indicated the victim was found at the back of a home on a rural property on the 40000 block of Mt. Pleasant Dr., east of Highway 89.

Deputies assigned to the Burney Mountain Sub-Station, along with area fire and rescue personnel, were dispatched to the location shortly after 7:30 p.m., after a person called 911 and reported finding a body. Radio traffic indicated the 911 caller told SHASCOM emergency dispatchers the victim appeared to have been deceased “for several days.”

Officials began arriving at the scene just minutes later and confirmed finding a deceased person inside the rear of the home. Officials at the scene cancelled all incoming fire and rescue resources, while awaiting the arrival of deputies and coroner officials.

The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending further investigation, identification, and notification of the person’s family.

Deputies later took over the scene and assumed the investigation, which was being assisted by coroner’s officials and ongoing at the scene as of this report.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
