Fontana man, 19, ID’d after fatal crash into Perris warehouse

PERRIS — Officials have identified a Fontana man who died early Monday morning, July 8, after his vehicle overturned and crashed into the Home Depot Perris Distribution Center, just east of the “T” intersection of Nance St. and Indian Ave.

Deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station, along with Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the crash about 4:16 a.m., after receiving reports of a single-vehicle rollover involving a vehicle that smashed into a warehouse, Riverside Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Forbes reported this afternoon.

When officials arrived they found a red, 2017 Hyundai Accent that had left the roadway and collided into a warehouse.

Despite life-saving efforts, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, who has since been identified by Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials as Christopher Rodriguez, 19, of Fontana, succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene. 

Based on the circumstances, deputies assigned to Perris Sheriff Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

While officials worked at the scene, a portion of Nance St. was closed for several hours, but was re-opened at the conclusion of the initial on-scene investigation.

No further information or details have been released about the sheriff’s investigation, which is ongoing.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
