Nuevo murder leaves one woman dead, another injured

NUEVO — Authorities and witnesses say one woman was killed and another was injured after they were intentionally run down by a man who then fled the scene Monday afternoon, Sept. 9. Officials are now investigating the hit and run as a homicide, which happened on the 29000 Block of 13th St. in the unincorporated area of Nuevo, according to Riverside County Central Homicide Unit officials.

Deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station, along with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the area about 4:50 p.m., after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit Sgt. Rick Espinoza reported after the deadly incident.

“Upon arrival, deputies found a female deceased in the road and a second female injured,” explained Espinoza. “The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived and has not been located.”

Officials have not released the victims’ names, pending further investigation and notification of the deceased woman’s family. Officials have also not specified if the suspect has been identified or was known to the two victims, or what led to the fatal incident.

Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit investigators responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. They were assisted by technicians from the department’s Foresic Service Unit, Perris station deputies and investigators, and other officials.

In the wake of the deadly incident, Desire Perez posted a plea for information about a possible suspect to social media, saying a man she only identified as “Erik” is “currently on the run for killing my tia, running her over multiple times with his car.”

Despite Perez’ post, Sheriff’s officials have not confirmed this person is wanted or was involved in the incident, and according to Espinoza, the Sheriff’s investigation is ongoing and no further details will be released at this time.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
