Deputies conducted the traffic enforcement stop around 11:50 a.m., Friday morning, Oct. 11, Shasta County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jesse Gunsauls reported after the arrest.

During the traffic stop deputies contacted the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 31-year-old, Ramona Lopez.

“K-9 ‘Thor’ was walked around the vehicle to perform a free air sniff,” explained Gunsauls. “Thor displayed a positive alert, indicating he detected an odor of a controlled substance emitting from within the vehicle.”

During a subsequent search of Lopez’ vehicle, deputies discovered 5.79 pounds of heroin hidden inside a bag on the rear passenger seat.

Based on their investigation, deputies arrested Lopez and she was booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of possession of heroin for the purpose of sales.
