Pedestrian killed crossing Lakeland Village street
LAKELAND VILLAGE — A pedestrian who was wearing earphones and attempted to cross a Lake Elsinore street was struck and killed by a motorist when she walked directly into the path of an oncoming car early Tuesday morning, Nov. 12.
Although the victim was using a crosswalk, according to CHP the woman attempted to cross the street against a red light at the intersection of Grand Ave. and Blackwell Blvd., in the Lakeland Village area of Lake Elsinore, along the southwest side of the lake.

CHP officers, Riverside Sheriff’s deputies, Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection at 4:18 a.m., after receiving reports of a car that struck a pedestrian, CHP Officer Mike Lassig reported after the deadly collision.
When officials arrived at the scene they found a 2005 Mazda 3 that had struck a pedestrian, who was down in the roadway with major traumatic injuries.
Despite life-saving efforts, the victim passed away from her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by fire personnel, according to Lassig.
The victim has not yet been identified and is currently listed by CHP as a Jane Doe.
During their subsequent investigation CHP learned that just before the collision the unidentified pedestrian had been standing at the east roadway edge of Grand Ave., at the intersection of Blackwell Blvd. at a crosswalk.
At the same time, a 78-year-old Lake Elsinore resident was traveling northbound on Grand Ave. approaching the intersection at Blackwell Blvd. where the pedestrian was preparing to cross the street.
“A witness observed (the victim) begin to walk into the crosswalk against a red light while wearing headphones in both ears,” Lassig explained. “(The victim) walked directly into the path of (the Mazda), causing (the vehicle’s) front end to collide into (the victim’s) left side.”
While CHP worked at the scene they called for the temporary closure of Grand Ave., but the roadway was re-opened about two hours later.
CHP’s investigation is ongoing and officials used the opportunity to remind pedestrian’s to always use marked crosswalks whenever possible, to obey all traffic signs and signals, and never where headphones when on or near a roadway.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
