Pedestrian killed when struck by train in City of Shasta Lake

CITY OF SHASTA LAKE — Authorities are investigating after a man was fatally struck by a train while walking on the tracks in the City of Shasta Lake this morning, Thursday, Jan. 2. The fatal collision happened in the area of Boca St. and Black Canyon Rd., according to officials.

Emergency personnel were first alerted to the accident around 8:30 a.m., after SHASCOM emergency dispatchers received a report that a Union Pacific train had struck a person who had been walking on the tracks.

Officials at the scene reported the victim, described only as an adult male, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As of 11 a.m., authorities were still working to identify the victim, according to officials who remained at the location for several hours.

During their initial investigation, officials learned the Union Pacific train that struck the victim had been traveling northbound with about fifteen cars being pulled by two engines.

Although the speed limit for trains in that area is 50 mph, it was not immediately known how fast the train was going when it struck the pedestrian.

The train remained stopped in the area for about two-and-a-half hours before it was allowed to continue on its route.

As of this report, Redding PD’s investigation was active and ongoing at the scene.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
