Shovel-wielding man arrested after violent Redding incident
REDDING — A parolee armed with a shovel who reportedly smashed out the front window of a Redding residence during an attempted robbery was arrested early yesterday morning, Jan. 16.
According to officials, after smashing out the home’s window and attempting to rob a woman of her cell phone and vehicle keys the man then turned his shovel and fury on the victim’s vehicle.

City of Redding police officers responded to the 3600 block of Magnums Way around 5:45 a.m., Redding PD Sgt. Eric Forsberg reported after the incident and arrest. The 911 caller reported a man had smashed a front window to her home while trying to steal items from her.
When officers arrived at the home they quickly located Allen Ray Silva, 36, of Redding, still outside the residence and still armed with the shovel.

After detaining Silva without incident, officers learned that after smashing out the front window of the victim’s home and attempting to rob the woman of her cell phone and vehicle keys, the victim was able to run back to her residence and call 911.
That’s when officials say Silva turned and began striking the victim’s vehicle and windows with the shovel.
During their investigation, Silva reportedly admitted to officers that he was under the influence of methamphetamine, according to Gunsauls; who did not specify if Silva knew the victim of his attack.
Based on their investigation, Silva was subsequently booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of attempted robbery, vandalism, and violation of parole.
Online jail records indicate he remains in custody, where he is being held without bail.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
