Motorcyclist crashes into street sweeper on SR-299E – Minor injuries reported

HATCHET MOUNTAIN — Minor injuries were reported after a motorcyclist plowed into the back of a Cal Trans street sweeper earlier today, Tuesday, Feb. 18. This morning’s crash, which happened on SR-299E near Hatchet Mountain Summit, reportedly caused minor delays while firefighters and CHP worked at the scene of the crash.

CHP, Cal Fire-Shasta, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the accident around 11:20 a.m., after receiving reports of an eastbound motorcyclist that had smashed into the back of the large Cal Trans vehicle, according to a CHP incident log.

When officials arrived they reported finding the wrecked motorcycle wedged under the street sweeper. Officials also reported the motorcyclist suffered minor injuries and that the roadway was not blocked by the two involved vehicles or debris from the impact.

Shortly after arriving at the scene, firefighters reported they could handle the crash with resources at scene, and canceled all other incoming resources, according to official radio traffic at the time.

Officials investigating the cause of the crash have not yet released any details regarding their accident investigation, which is active and ongoing.

Trevor Montgomery, 48, moved in 2017 to the Intermountain area of Shasta County from Riverside County and runs Riverside County News Source and Shasta County News Source. Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
