Woman, 23 arrested in fatal Moreno Valley shooting

MORENO VALLEY — Authorities investigating a Moreno Valley shooting that left a man dead Monday, March 16, say they arrested a woman they allege was responsible for the deadly shooting. The fatal incident happened on the 24500 block of Atwood Ave.

The deadly shooting was the third homicide in southwest Riverside County over a one-week period involving women who were later arrested for murder. One of those homicides happened at a Moreno Valley home Monday, March 9.

The other deadly incident, which happened the same day in the unincorporated community of Anza, left one woman dead and another woman critically injured.

Officials began investigating the shooting death of 27-year-old Moreno Valley resident Lamar Wilkins, after receiving reports of a shooting around 7:30 p.m., Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Brosche previously reported.

Responding deputies found Wilkins had sustained a single gunshot wound and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As their investigation was getting underway, Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit investigators developed leads and gathered information that led them to identifying 23-year-old Moreno Valley resident, Kenneisha Infinity Brazile, as the person they say was responsible for the deadly shooting.

On Wednesday, March 18, investigators located Brazile at a Moreno Valley home on Dickinson Rd., inside a residential neighborhood northeast of Box Springs and Gernert roads. She was detained without incident, according to Brosche; who did not specify if there was a known motive for the shooting or what may have led to the deadly encounter.

Online jail records indicate Brazile was arrested early the next morning and later booked into Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree murder. She remains in custody at Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning where she is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. She is scheduled to be arraigned at Riverside’s Hall Of Justice March 23.

MORENO VALLEY — A gunman is on the loose after a shooting in Moreno Valley left a man dead yesterday, March 16. Monday evening’s shooting happened on the 24500 block of Atwood Ave., according to officials investigating the deadly shooting.

Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the scene to investigate reports of a shooting around 7:30 p.m., Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Brosche later reported.

Responding deputies found a man suffering from a single gunshot wound, according to Broshe; who said the victim was later identified as Lamar Wilkins, 27, from Moreno Valley.

Although deputies searched the area for the suspected gunman, “the suspect(s) fled the scene prior to deputies arrival,” said Brosche.

Investigators from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station and the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation, which is active and ongoing.
