One dead, one recovering after Moreno Valley shooting

MORENO VALLEY — Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another injured in a residential neighborhood in Moreno Valley early Friday morning, March 27. The deadly shooting happened on the 11000 block of McCully Ct., near the southeast corner of Poorman Resevoir, in the area of Heacock St. and Gregory Ln.

Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the scene around 1 a.m., after receiving reports of a shooting, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Brosche later reported.

When deputies arrived in the area they located two men who had sustained gunshot wounds sitting inside a vehicle.

“The first male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced at the scene,” explained Brosche. “The second male was transported to a local hospital where he is expected to survive his wounds.”

The suspect(s) fled the scene prior to deputies arrival and are still outstanding, according to Brosche.

Based on the circumstances, Moreno Valley Station and Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit investigators were requested to the scene and and have assumed the investigation.

Neither of the victims of Friday’s shooting have been publicly identified, pending further investigation and notification of the deceased man’s family.

The sheriff’s homicide investigation is active and ongoing, said Brosche; who declined to release any further details.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
