Local fisherman’s body recovered after Round Mountain drowning
ROUND MOUNTAIN, Calif. — Authorities say the desperate search for a man who fell into the water while fishing and was swept away by the fast-moving current late Thursday morning, April 2, ended when the victim’s lifeless body was later found and pulled from the frigid water about an hour later.
The deadly accident happened at a popular local fishing spot in the area of the Pit 7 spillway near Fenders Ferry Road in Round Mountain, about 30 miles east of Redding and 22 miles west of Burney.

Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Burney Sub-Station, along with Cal Fire, California Highway Patrol’s air operations and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the scene around 11:45 a.m., after receiving reports of a possible drowning, SCSO officials have since reported.

When deputies arrived, they learned Edward John Forbis, 65, of Round Mountain, was fishing near the spillway when he fell into the water and was swept away by the swift current.
With help from Shasta County Sheriff’s Boating and Safety Unit, Forbis’ body was discovered around 12:45 p.m., about an hour after the search began. His body was found a short distance from the spillway, according to officials, who successfully recovered the victim.
Forbis was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.
Forbis’ family has been notified and with assistance from the County Coroner’s Office, SCSO is continuing to investigate what one witness described as “just a tragic accident.”

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
