WILDOMAR, Calif. — Authorities yesterday announced the arrest of a man wanted for questioning after a Wildomar altercation with a sheriff’s deputy led to an officer involved shooting Tuesday morning, March 31.
The deputy was uninjured during the encounter, which happened on the 33700 block of Orange St., between Lemon and Waite streets, just east of Interstate 5.

Officials investigating last Tuesday’s shooting had been searching for 35-year-old, Lake Elsinore resident, Joe Gerson Sanchez III.
Officials had previously said Sanchez was considered armed and dangerous and cautioned area residents that if seen, Sanchez should not be directly contacted.
“If Sanchez is located, do not approach him and immediately contact (officials),” Riverside Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Juan Silva explained in an earlier press release; saying, “Sanchez has made statements that he will be shot by a cop before going back to prison.”

On April 2, around 8 p.m., members of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Unit and Fugitive Warrant Apprehension Team located and arrested Sanchez, according to an updated “wanted” flier released by the department.
Online jail records indicate Sanchez, who has addresses out of Lake Elsinore and the Angels Camp area in northern California, was located on Cornell St. in Adelanto, California.

He was booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of assaulting a peace officer with a deadly weapon and violation of probation.
Sanchez is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at Murrieta’s Southwest Justice Center April 7
Original Story: Officials searching for probationer after Wildomar officer involved shooting
WILDOMAR — Authorities are searching for a probationer they say attempted to run down a deputy with a pickup truck in Wildomar Tuesday morning, March 31.
Although the deputy was uninjured during the encounter, the incident led to an officer involved shooting on the 33700 block of Orange St., between Lemon and Waite streets, just east of Interstate 5.
The alleged suspect, who has since been identified as 35-year-old, Lake Elsinore resident, Joe Gerson Sanchez III, is considered armed and dangerous and officials have cautioned area residents that if seen, the suspect should not be directly contacted.
“If Sanchez is located, do not approach him and immediately contact (officials),” Riverside Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Juan Silva later explained; saying, “Sanchez has made statements that he will be shot by a cop before going back to prison.”
Officials have not specified what led to the incident and shooting, which happened around 10:30 a.m.
After the altercation and shooting the suspect fled the area in a white, single cab dually pickup truck, possibly a late 1990s or early 2000s Ford, said Silva.
It was not immediately known if the suspect was struck by the deputy’s gunfire.
Central Homicide Unit investigators have assumed this investigation and have asked for the public’s help locating Sanchez; who has addresses out of Lake Elsinore and the Angels Camp area in northern California.
Per department policy, the deputy involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave.
