Child airlifted after struck by car in Hemet

HEMET, Calif. — Details are beginning to emerge after a child was struck by a car and seriously injured in Hemet earlier this afternoon, Saturday, May 2. The juvenile was airlifted to an area trauma center after the accident, which happened in the area of Park Ave. and Grove Ln.

City of Hemet police and fire personnel, along with AMR and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene just after 12:30 p.m., after receiving reports of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian.

911 callers reported the child was alert and breathing, but seriously injured and still down in the roadway.

Based on the victim’s reported injuries, a Mercy Air Ambulance was summoned and Mercy 3 was soon launched to the area.

When officials arrived they began treating the victim and once stabilized, transported the juvenile to a helipad at Hemet Valley Hospital to meet with the air ambulance. The victim was then flown to Riverside University Health in Moreno Valley.

The full extent of the victim’s injuries was not known as of this report.

The driver of the sedan that struck the victim was reportedly cooperating with the officers’ investigation, which is ongoing at the scene, where Park Ave. remains closed to traffic.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
