Redding shooting leads to hours-long search – Two hospitalized

REDDING, Calif. — Authorities say a shooting at a Redding residence ended with two people shot Sunday evening, June 7. The shooting led to a huge, hours-long response and search evidence related to the incident.

A “Code Red” notification sent out to area residents, requesting they shelter in-place and avoid the area of Canby Rd & Hawthorne Ave. due to heavy police activity in the area, was lifted at 11:38 p.m., exactly three hours after SHASCOM received the first reports of the shooting.

Although no arrests have been made related to the shooting, which happened at a home on the 1100 block of Hawthorne Ave., officials have said, “there does not appear to be any risk to the public.”

Officers from the Redding Police Department were dispatched to the area at 8:38 p.m., after receiving numerous reports of gunshots at a residence, Redding Police Sgt. Paul Slagle has since reported.

While officers were headed to the scene they spotted a white Dodge pickup truck that had reportedly been at the home when the shooting occurred, according to Slagle.

Officers conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle seen leaving the scene of last night’s shooting found a man suffering from gunshot related injuries. Another victim of the shooting was found about a block from where the shooting reportedly happened. Robert Withrow photo

When officers stopped the truck on Lake Blvd. near Waterworks Park they found that one of the male passengers was suffering from a gunshot wound.

At about the same time, officers located another man who was also suffering from a gunshot wound on the 1000 block of Dusty Ln., about a block from where the shooting occurred.

Both gunshot victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries., according to Slagle, who did not specify the full extent of the men’s injuries, or if their injuries were considered life-threatening.

While officers canvassed the area searching for the person or persons responsible for the shooting, Redding PD’s Investigations Division was notified and requested to the scene.

Detectives responded and ultimately assumed the investigation; which is active and ongoing.
